The Marine Engineers were the first to create and build the Association as far back as 1881. Despite the decline of the New Zealand marine industry the Association still represents all Marine Engineers in NZ. Our members range from Chief Engineers to cadets and work on all kinds of vessels from tankers and ferries to luxury yachts which are operated by companies such as Interisland Ferries, Pacifica Shipping, Silver Fern Shipping, Strait Shipping, Golden Bay Cement, Holcim Cement, PB Sea Tow and NIWA. We also have arrangements with many shipping agents in New Zealand and around the world.

The Marine Division also has members at the 11 main Ports in the country where our members work on the tugs as engineers and operators. Their role is to safely berth and depart the thousands of vessels that visit our ports each year that play a significant part of the export / import contribution to the Nation’s economy.

All of our Marine members hold tickets (qualifications) which are based on international standards and are recognised in many parts of the World.
